INTERNSHIP CASE STUDY
Exponential University: what I contributed as a Web Developer Intern
· By Jethro Frane · 3 min read
My WordPress and Elementor internship contribution, responsive checks, and issue tracking for a learning and community website.

From January to April 2025, I was a Web Developer Intern at Gencys Digital Trading Inc. I contributed to Exponential University, an existing WordPress learning and community website.
My work included WordPress and Elementor page updates, responsive and cross-browser checks, and Jira issue reports. The platform also uses BuddyPress.
Work inside an existing site
I worked within the platform’s tools and team process. My contribution was the assigned page work and quality checks. I want the case study to make that scope clear.

Check the page on different screens
A section that looks fine on desktop can need different spacing or stacking on mobile. I checked the layout and browser behavior and recorded issues that needed follow-up.
A useful report points to the affected page, the visible problem, and the expected result. Jira was part of that workflow.
What I learned
- Visual page builders still need careful layout checks.
- A page change can affect the flow of the rest of the site.
- Clear issue notes help someone else investigate.
- Describe the contribution accurately when working in a team.
This internship gave me practical experience with page updates and QA. My independent projects give me a separate place to keep learning.

What an actionable layout report should contain
A useful issue report makes the visible problem reproducible. It identifies the page, the browser or screen width, the steps taken, and the expected result. A screenshot adds context, but the description should still make sense on its own.
That is the connection between page building and quality review that I took from the internship. A section can be complete in Elementor while its spacing or reading order still needs attention on another screen. Working within an existing website also means keeping the team context clear. This case study describes my assigned contribution; it does not imply that I built the complete platform or owned every feature.
