Overview & Approach

Sonata is an open-source, local-first music workspace built with plain HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Song data stays with the user in the browser; optional backup writes directly to the user's own Google Drive, so the project does not need a central song database or paid file-storage service.

The app includes chord-chart editing and transposition, song organization, setlists, stage display, and export tools. The core workspace is a static front-end app. Its optional AI co-writer sends requests through a small Vercel serverless endpoint for Gemini; that endpoint is separate from song storage. Sonata is MIT-licensed and its source is public on GitHub.
